Holistic cause of symptoms
If the spleen is severely strained, e.g. by unhealthy food or stimulants, stress or sensory overload, it finds it difficult to perform its task of sorting important and unimportant matters. This can lead to blockages on a physical and mental level. On a physical level, this can manifest itself in the form of metabolic disorders, digestive/appetite disorders, fatigue, water retention and facial pain.
On a mental level, it can manifest itself in repetitive thoughts, worries, brooding, difficulty setting boundaries with others, lack of confidence, stubbornness, bad moods, grumpiness, depressive moods, melancholy, rigid adherence to things, ‘sticking’ to one thing, attitudes and beliefs, circumstances and conditions. In order to produce the happiness hormone serotonin, the spleen needs sufficient breaks and rest. This is especially true after meals, after eating too quickly and/or uncontrollably.
